Training Description
In this exercise, we take one major arpeggio and turn it into three different ways of practicing musicality on the guitar.
Instead of simply learning another fingering, you’ll explore how the same musical material can be transformed through position, horizontal movement, and progressive variations.
The exercise is designed to develop coordination, fretboard movement, and greater control over how you play and phrase musical ideas.
WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON
- A major arpeggio pattern and its interval structure.
- Coordination between both hands.
- Moving horizontally across the fretboard.
- Three progressive variations of the same idea.
- Control, consistency, and musical expression.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this exercise, you will be able to:
- Play the major arpeggio pattern with greater awareness of its structure.
- Practice the same material through different variations.
- Move the pattern horizontally across the fretboard.
- Use progressive variations to make a single exercise more challenging.
- Approach technical exercises as a way to develop musical control, not just finger technique.
PRACTICE APPROACH
Start slowly and focus on clarity and coordination before increasing speed.
The goal is not simply to memorize the pattern. Use each variation as a different way to explore the same musical idea and gradually develop greater control over the fretboard.
